André Velez Cruz is a photographer, illustrator and on occasion, graphic designer.

Born and raised in Évora, mostly based in Lisbon at the moment.

His photography work began with an interest for documenting live music in 2017. Through the last few years he’s come to experiment with and reinvent his visual identity and taste in order to understand what draws him to the final images. 

Photographing always felt very voyeuristic and revealed to be a craving for connection with the world around him; that is most obvious on the body of work revolving events or festivals, where he tends to look at isolated interactions and details, showing glimpses of narratives.

 

Lately he’s been exploring the low-fi properties of digital photography and cheap printing. Despite finding analog photography a more "grounded" format, digital is a vastly more democratic way to produce and explore image making. What is making photography continually an interesting subject is the vast variety of mediums one can produce an image, be it with phones, tablets, video game consoles, webcams…
